Frequently-Asked Questions (and Answers!)

Why should I hire a professional painter?

There are many reasons to hire a professional company to paint your facility, home or office. For one, it's time-efficient, hiring painting contractors ensures your project will be properly prepped, cleaned and your final product will be nothing less than exceptional.

What should I do to prepare my house for painting?

Remove any artwork, photographs, bookcases and decorative pieces from all walls that are to be painted. That's it!

Do you provide touch-up paint after you are finished?

We sure do! Once we've completed painting, we provide all the leftover paint for touch-ups. The materials cost is part of your project total. You're paying for it, so you should have it! Furthermore, we'll even do touch-ups for you. After we leave, if you notice small areas here and there that require a little extra attention, we will be happy to come back out and correct them. Your satisfaction is our goal!

Are you a licensed and insured painting contractor?

Yes and no. While the state of Texas does not require licensure of painting contractors, we are fully insured. We carry both Worker's Comp and Liability insurance policies. We will happily provide a certificate of insurance upon request. What stands out about Lone Star Painters is that we truly do spend the additional time to properly prep for the project and clean so well after completion, that it's like we were never there.

How long does a job take?

Different projects vary in completion time. Most of the residential painting can be completed in less than a week. Once we complete your free estimate, we will be able to provide a more accurate timeline. Naturally, commercial painting projects can take longer, depending on the size of the building(s) and the scope of work. Throughout the entire project, we make sure to keep you very informed of the timeline. Be wary of painting contractors that tell you they can start your job right away and have your job completed very quickly! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Remember, quality takes just little extra time.

Do I need to use special paint in the bathroom and kitchen?

In areas with high amounts of water/humidity or food preparation. We recommend using a satin or eggshell finish in these rooms. The added sheen will hold up better than a flat paint in these moisture-filled rooms and will help prevent the "drip marks" that can sometimes be seen when flat paint is used.

Can I leave my home while your painting crew works?

Certainly! While you are at work, running errands or on vacation, our painters will be busy prepping and painting your home. Most of our clients prefer to be gone while the work is in progress. Most of our painters have worked for us for years. We know and trust them and you can too.

Can I match my current paint color?

Yes! We are asked this question a lot. Many people "inherit" their home's paint colors when they move in. Paint companies now have the technology to take a very small sample (chip) of paint and match it.

How often should you have to paint the exterior?

Typically, in Texas, due to temperature variations and sun exposure, an exterior paint job should last 10-15 years...assuming high-quality materials were used. Caulk joints tend to crack within that time which warrants re-painting to protect trim and siding. Stained surfaces usually require more frequent maintenance (every 3-5 years, on average). Lone Star Painters recommends and uses high-quality coatings which provide the highest degree of long-term performance.

What should I do to get ready for the painters?

It is the customer's responsibility to provide us with the paint colors. So, the first step is choosing your colors. We can even have a Sherwin Williams Color Specialist come to your home and assist with choosing your new colors. We want you to be happy. The next step is to prepare your home, office or facility. For interior projects, please remove small decorative items and pictures from walls. Please, secure arrangements for any animals. We cannot be responsible for pets during the project. For exterior projects, please make sure we have access to the areas that need to be painted (trim bushes back if necessary, etc.) and remove decorative items that you do not wish to have painted (Christmas lights, wind chimes, etc.).
